The potential future of Auto Units


The future and the goals Auto Units is trying to achieve.

The Future

Currently Auto Units is just a prototype for a project I'd like to make much larger. What I want of this game is to have a similar battle system as to Super Auto Pets. Where you battle line-ups previously made by other players. How things currently are we have 4 main units with 3 tiers each. I would like to add a bigger variety of units with different abilities. 

There is also a potential different path I could take where this stays a single player game and instead of a Super Auto Pets approach I'd take an approach like Slay the Spire where the player has to defeat 3 bosses and has branching paths. 

The goals Auto Units is trying to achieve

I am a big fan of Auto-battlers/Auto-chess games like TFT, Super Auto Pets, Auto Chess, etc.

The thing is currently a lot of these games have a very high learning curve. What  I am trying to achieve with Auto Units is a game that is an entry-level Auto-battler. The game should stay simple but also strategic in a way. 

The Problems and Solutions

The problems with learning Auto-battlers:

  •  Economy
  •  Win/lose streaking
  • Too many different abilities
  •  Too many spots
  • Items with too many things on them

How can we try to make economy easier:

After a fight I can give people a screen that tells them what they got and explain why they got it. Don't give too much information make big text and show an image of a coin.

Example of an end battle screen:

  • You earned 8 gold this round! 
  • Standard payout 5 coins
    You will get a small amount of money regardless of when you win
  • You earned 2 gold from winning the battle! 
  • You have 10 gold saved up you get 1 coin extra as interest!
    For every 10 coins saved up you'll get 1 more coin till a maximum of 5!
  •  You are on a 2 battle win streak, you got 2 extra coins!

Make abilities simple and easy to read add magic and armor resistance.

For items make very simple items like:

  • Shield: Adds armor to your unit.
  • Sword: Adds damage
  • Staff: Reduce cast time

For Auto Units to become a full game

Depending on the support I can get the game has different options to become.

With a lot of support I would be able to turn it into the game that I've discussed above.

With a small bit of support I would be able to turn the game into a single player game like slay the spire.

With no support I would most likely abandon the project and try something else.
